On Monday, October 10, 2016, at approximately 2:39 P.M., a
male who was later determined to be a 17 year old juvenile, came into the Los
Alamitos Police Department lobby and threatened the unarmed professional staff
at the front counter with a knife. The subject solicited responding
police personnel to shoot him, and shortly after turned the weapon and
threatened to cause harm to himself. After several attempts at
de-escalating the situation, the subject was distracted and a Taser was
deployed which incapacitated the subject and allowed officers to disarm
him. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for treatment due
to the Taser probes and for psychological evaluation. No City employees were physically injured.
