Seat Belts Saves Lives: Click It or Ticket!

The Los Alamitos Police Department would like to remind the motoring public to Click It or Ticket.  As part of the national seat belt enforcement campaign, law enforcement agencies across the country will be stepping up enforcement efforts between the dates of May 18 – 31.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly half of the 21,132 passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2013 were unrestrained.  Additionally, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. the percentage of people killed while unrestrained rose to 59%.
Even though Californians have a seat belt usage rate of nearly 97%, statistics show that 500 unrestrained vehicle occupants died in 2013, and almost twice as many males were killed as compared to females.  Memorial Day Weekend and the start of the summer travel season will be here soon.  With that in mind, the Los Alamitos Police Department wants to make sure the motoring public is buckling up and doing the one best thing that may save them in a traffic accident.
