Cub Scout Pack 601 visits the Police Department

In preparation for earning their Bicycle Safety Badges, this week Cub Scout Pack 601 visited the Los Alamitos Police Department.   After a brief tour of the station's inner workings, Traffic Sergeant Raso gathered the scouts into the briefing room to discuss various aspects of Bicycle Safety, including wearing helmets and using hand signals.

Following a lively question and answer period, the boys were next met outside by Motor Officer Krogman, who continued to underscore importance of obeying bicycle rules of the road, traffic signals, and remaining vigilant and alert.  The cub scouts then investigated the inside of a police vehicle and the various tools used by officers, including handcuffs.

Records Specialist Sack helped reinforce bicycle safety throughout the station tour.  Good Luck earning your badges, boys!

Arrest of Interest

Today at about 3:40 AM, a Los Alamitos police officer was patrolling the area of Howard Avenue and Lexington Drive when they observed a vehicle fail to stop for the posted sign. The officer initiated a traffic stop however the vehicle immediately stopped in the middle of the roadway, then fled at a high rate of speed only about 200 feet before colliding into a parked vehicle. The two occupants fled the disabled vehicle on foot into the apartment area. The patrol team, with assistance from officers of the Cypress and Seal Beach Police Departments, set up a perimeter and eventually located both occupants near an area retail establishment.
The male adults were found in possession of suspected stolen property and potential burglary tools. The vehicle they were driving contained additional suspected stolen property and it was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen in Los Angeles County. An investigation is being conducted to determine if the pair are involved in any further crimes.
